President’s Message

President's Message

Dear Brothers and Sisters:
What a Year….What a
Year!
First, thank you and congratulations to each and
every one of you on your extraordinary work in 2013 and 2014 to ensure that 7.1
million Americans had access to affordable health coverage.
Can you believe that 7.1 million Americans now
have access to affordable health care--and, it is because of leaders like you
that this has happened! Access to and the implementation of affordable
healthcare has been a number one priority for APRI for several years.  I am
so proud to be able to say that You—the leaders of APRI—are counted among those
who have taken aggressive measures to ensure that this basic right to healthcare
is being implemented.
Now….ARE YOU
READY?
We have so much more work ahead of us in the
coming months.  This year, the National Education Conference is focused on
resetting, recharging and refocusing on the growth of stronger chapters across
the entire country.  We have reconnected with our advocacy partners, and
reaffirmed our direction to the principles which influenced Randolph and
Rustin’s ideals when they founded the Institute in 1965.  And, we have just
the place to start this work.  We are going to be in Reno, Nevada at the
Grand Sierra Resort. This site will serve as an inspiration to promote serious
dialogue on strategies to move our Labor agenda forward.
The Grand Sierra Resort is nestled in the
shadows of the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains, and even in August, tranquility
will prevail.  The Resort is family-friendly with activities for all
ages--with the best part being the $59.00 per night room rate (single/double).
For the dates of our Conference, August 20-24, 2014, we have negotiated
that amazing rate, with upgrades at $89.00 per night to the section listed as
the Summit. For those of you trying to squeeze your vacation time in, we have
negotiated the same rate to be applied 3 days before the Conference and 3 days
after the Conference.
Reservations can be made by
calling the hotel toll free reservations line at:  1-800-648-5080 / please
identify yourselves as attending the “APRI” or “A. Philip Randolph Institute”
National Education Conference.
THE CUT-OFF DATE
FOR THE APRI CONFERENCE RATE IS:  JULY 11, 2014
In
the days to come, you will be hearing much more about the exciting events—for
example, just one of the relaxed activities that will occur during the course of
the Conference is the Bowling Competition between the five regions.  You
must watch the APRI website for all agenda
developments.
The Word is Out—APRI is going to
Reno!
In Unity,
Clayola Brown,
President
