William

A. Philip Randolph Institute on the Passing of William "Bill" Lucy,

On behalf of the National Board, Members, Affiliates and Staff of the A. Philip Randolph Institute, we extend out heartfelt condolences over the loss of our Brother, Friend and Mentor Willian "Bill"Lucy, one of the most influencial Civil Rights and Labor advocates in this century.

Bill's passing is universal. He was acknowledged by many for setting the standard as a
"true leader" here at home and abroad. Although he was a leader in every sense of the word he was never held captive by the titles he held -- whether as a labor organizer, or as Secretary-Treasurer of ASFCME. His work abroad included steering a grassroots campaign that sparked widespread opposition to apartheid in South Africa.

Ebony magazine frequently cited Bill Lucy as one of "The 100 most

Influential Black Americans".

It is impossible to express the immense loss over the passing of our dear Brother and Friend. We are all better as a people, and extremely grateful for his being that "one of a kind" Spirit who will live forever in our hearts.

Sleep well, noble and courageous leader.

With sympathy,

Clayola Brown, National President

A.Philip Randolph Institute
